Privacy

Deck Hop needs no account: no sign-up, no password, no email. It stores only what the tour needs: the display name you choose, your crew’s name, code and sailing dates, the bars you stamp (with the time, the signature bonus, your dare result, your bonus-wheel result, your drink rating and whether you got the bar’s trivia question right), what you post to your crew (below), and, if you send feedback, your rating, your comments, your would-you-pay answer and, only if you choose to give it, an email address. The email is used for one thing: telling you when Deck Hop becomes an app. It is never sold or shared.

Your seat on a crew is a random secret kept in your browser; the server stores only a scrambled (hashed) copy of it. Other players see your name, points, bar count and dare count, never your individual stamps. Drink ratings are shown to the crew only as an average per bar, and only once at least two people have rated that bar. Your drinks package, menu prices, Diamond vouchers and water-break reminders never leave your phone.

Your crew’s feed and chat

Only the players on your crew can see them. Not other crews, not the public, not search engines. Each crew has one feed and one group chat. There are no private messages: everyone on the crew sees every chat message, and nobody can message one person on their own.

What is shared: the posts you write (words, a photo, or both), the photos you choose to share, your Cheers, your comments and your chat messages. The feed also posts short automatic “moments” about you from your stamps (a Bold dare, a banked spin, a right trivia answer, 5 or 10 bars, finishing the card). You can turn your moments off on the Feed tab; turning them off also deletes the ones already posted.

Photos stay on your phone unless you share one. A photo you take with “Snap it” is kept in this browser’s own storage on your phone and shows only on your card and your own recap. It is sent only if you tap “Share to crew” and then Share. Before it is sent, your phone shrinks it and re-draws it, which removes its location and camera details, and the server refuses a photo that still has them. Please only share photos of people who are happy to be in them.

When it is deleted: everything in a crew’s feed and chat (posts, photos, comments, Cheers and messages) is deleted automatically 14 days after the sailing’s last day. For a sailing that ends on 2 November, that is 16 November. You can delete your own posts, comments and messages any time before then. You can also hide any post from your own feed; nobody is told. So the feed opens without signal and does not download a photo twice, your phone keeps a copy of what it last showed you (the latest posts, messages and photos) and deletes it after that same date.

What the host can do: the player who started the crew can remove any post, comment or chat message, and can remove a player. Removing a player deletes their name, stamps, feedback (including any email), posts, photos, comments, Cheers and messages, for good.

Working offline

So the card still opens when the ship’s Wi-Fi drops, your browser keeps a copy of Deck Hop’s pages on your phone: the pages themselves, never anyone’s stamps, names or photos. Clearing this site’s data in your browser removes it.

Deleting your data

Ask your crew’s host to remove you: that deletes everything listed above straight away. Clearing this site’s data in your browser deletes the photos kept on your phone. In a private window a photo lasts only until you close the tab.
